Wander the beautiful streets of Historic Downtown Fredericksburg. Think boutique shops, antique stores, charming cafés, restored 18th-/19th-century buildings, and plenty of picture-perfect corners.
If you’re into history, this is a must. The park preserves multiple Civil War battlefields (of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania), visitor centers, monuments and walking trails. It’s a moving experience.
Explore four historic properties in downtown Fredericksburg: Mary Washington House, Hugh Mercer Apothecary, Rising Sun Tavern, and St. James’ House. Great small museum stops to learn about colonial history, medicinal practices back in the day, and architecture.
Kenmore is gorgeous — the historic home of Fielding and Betty Lewis, with beautiful gardens and preserved period architecture. Ferry Farm (where George Washington grew up) is nearby and very meaningful if you like early American history and scenery.
